Travel to Nassau, Bahamas with World of Hyatt

When it comes to dream vacations, Nassau is a tropical paradise that checks all the boxes. And the perfect complement to your Caribbean adventure is a stay at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, featuring an unparalleled blend of luxury resort accommodations and beachfront relaxation.

You may be able to convert your Platinum Points, Portfolio Points, or Club Points* to World of Hyatt® Bonus Points to stay at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar.

And what an adventure it will be. The capital city of the Bahamas lets you fill your days and nights with historical landmarks, local shopping experiences, flavorful dining, and stunning beaches.

Nassau's Historical Highlights**

Whether you're into food, wine, or history, plan a stop at Graycliff, a historic mansion turned boutique hotel and restaurant in the heart of Nassau. Built in 1740, it's a popular spot for dining, drinking, and hand-rolled cigars. Make a day of it by booking a wine-blending class at nearby winery Bahama Barrels by Graycliff, where your take-home prize is your own unique blend in a bottle.

Make the 65-step climb to the top of Queen's Staircase and be rewarded with panoramic views from Fort Fincastle. This historic landmark was carved in the late 1700s out of limestone.

Fort Charlotte, the largest fort on New Providence Island, is another lookout with a splendid view of Nassau Harbor. Visit on a Wednesday or Friday around 11:30 AM for the full experience, including actors with period costumes and other relics of everyday life in the 18th century. Cover your ears for the cannon firing at noon.

If discovering a bit of Nassau history sounds better with a drink in hand, John Watling's Distillery is the place for you. The 18th-century estate, home of Nassau's premier small-batch rums, offers free tours and tastings daily.

The pink-and-white Government House marries The Bahamas of yesterday and today. Dating to 1801, it's a shining example of Bahamian British and American Colonial architecture and now official residence of the Governor General of the Bahamas today.

Best Beaches in Nassau

It's little wonder that beautiful beaches are everywhere on New Providence Island, thanks to the Atlantic Ocean's rainbow of blues on all sides.

For a peaceful (and romantic) beach day, head to the secluded Love Beach, which has calm, clear waters, and a small beach bar.

At Saunders Beach, expect white sand, bright-blue waters, and fewer people around. Plus, thanks to the offshore island providing shelter to the beach, it's a great spot to swim.

Goodman's Bay Park is another popular beach choice in Nassau. It has a playground, basic restrooms, vendors, and rentals.

Cultural Gems of Nassau

Go below the surface of the Bahamas' stunning blues with a trip to Clifton Heritage National Park. Off the western coast of New Providence Island and just a short drive from Nassau, the park is home to Ocean Atlas, an art installation and artificial reef with a massive underwater statue representing a young woman holding up the weight of the ocean. This unique snorkeling spot also has historical ruins, nature trails, and coastal views, so make a day of it.

One of the most popular cultural experiences in Nassau is a visit to the Straw Market, where you can shop for gifts and souvenirs or just take in the hustle and bustle. This is a must, even if you don’t like to shop. Tables spill over with handmade Bahamian crafts like straw hats, bags, mats, and dolls made by locals, as well as jewelry and wood carvings.

If you're in Nassau on a Sunday night, don't miss the chance to rub elbows with locals at the weekly Bahamian Fish Fry at Arawak Cay, one of Nassau's most authentic dining experiences. You will get a feel for the true spirit of the Bahamas as you meet, mingle, and enjoy traditional Bahamian dishes and traditional Junkanoo sounds.
