After you check in at Hyatt Vacation Club® at Kā‘anapali Beach, you’ll have a full slate of activities there. But it’s almost impossible not to want to explore more. Here are some of the best family-friendly finds on the island.*
Hit the Sand at Kā‘anapali Beach
Every day in Maui is a beach day, and you can’t go wrong by starting at Kā‘anapali Beach. Located on the west side of the island, locals and visitors sunbathe, snorkel, and surf from dawn to dusk on this 3-mile stretch of golden sand. Beyond the beach, there's also the Kā‘anapali Beachwalk, an oceanfront trail dotted with locally owned and nationally known shops and restaurants perfect for a break from the sun.

Bike Haleakalā
Visiting the summit of Haleakalā, Maui’s tallest peak and an active volcano, is a must-do experience. From the summit, choose your adventure: whether it's simply taking in an otherworldly sunrise or sunset, trying to spot the rare ‘ahinahina (silversword) plant, or exploring something more physical by hiking the 11-mile Kenoeheʻeheʻe (Sliding Sands) Trail or traveling all the way down this 10,023-foot mountain on two wheels.

Explore the Road to Hana
The famous Road to Hana is a 64-mile scenic drive filled with waterfalls, viewpoints, and black-sand beaches. The route spotlights one of Hawai‘i's top draws: waterfall hikes. Twin Falls is at the start of the drive and very accessible from the parking lot. Towards the end of the Road to Hana, the 4-mile round-trip Pīpīwai Trail leads to several stunning waterfalls, including the ‘O‘he‘o Gulch, Makahiku Falls, and Waimoku Falls.

Treat the Family to Shave Ice
Shave ice — not shaved ice! — is a popular Hawaiian treat. Made of small ice shavings topped with fruity syrups, this refreshing sweet is found across Hawai‘i, but Maui-grown Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice has long been a local favorite. With its silky-smooth texture and natural fruit-based flavors — think choices like lilikoʻi (passionfruit), calamansi lime, and pineapple — you’ll likely find yourself making a few more shave ice stops during your Maui trip than anticipated.
Peruse Local Finds at The Shops at Wailea
With over 70 shops and restaurants, The Shops at Wailea is the perfect place to indulge in a little retail therapy. Find all sorts of local- and island-themed goodies from national and Hawaiian-based retailers like Na Hoku, Tommy Bahama, Maui Jim, and OluKai. For a break, head to Lineage, an Asian- and island-inspired eatery owned by Top Chef alum Sheldon Simeon; Waikiki Brewing Co., with a daily happy hour from 2 to 5 PM; or Lappert's Hawaii for a Kona coffee drink or ice cream in a signature flavor like ube and coconut.

Learn About Local Marine Life
The Maui Ocean Center, which has one of the world's largest tropical reef aquariums, is fun for kids — and adults — of all ages. This award-winning facility focuses on Hawai‘i’s marine life, putting local creatures like honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles), Pacific corals, and humpback whales in the spotlight.
Hike the Waihee Ridge Trail
Outdoor enthusiasts can get out and get active in West Maui on the Waihee Ridge Trail. Just be aware that it is 4.2 miles long and has 1,491 feet of elevation gain. But the effort pays off with incredible views of the lush West Maui Mountains and Pacific Ocean.
Spend an Evening at the Drums of the Pacific Lū‘au
The lū‘au offers a compelling way to take part in native Hawaiian culture. Drums of the Pacific Lū‘au, held at the adjacent Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa hotel, features music, dancing, and food from a variety of Polynesian cultures. Start your experience with a kukui nut (candlenut) lei greeting, feast on an island-inspired buffet, and watch hula and fire dancers show off their skills at this unforgettable evening show. Ask the Concierge for more details about availability.
Your Home for Your ‘Ohana
You may be familiar with the Hawaiian word for family, ‘ohana. Your ‘ohana will love relaxing in their residential-style villa at Hyatt Vacation Club at Kā‘anapali Beach after a day of sightseeing.
Set on a dramatic 1,800-foot stretch of oceanfront shoreline, the resort surrounds you with warm tropical breezes, azure skies, and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and West Maui Mountains.
